What you’ll need

Allergens and labels
Fish. Use plain fish with no breading or seasoning mix.

One step at a time

Let’s make it

  1. Heat 1 tablespoon olive oil in a wide pan and cook the fish for about 3 minutes per side until opaque and flaky; remove to a plate.
  2. Add remaining oil, garlic and potatoes to the same pan and cook 3 minutes. Add chard or spinach and cook another 2 minutes.
  3. Return fish to the pan, squeeze over lemon and finish with parsley and black pepper.

Times are estimates. Use the doneness checks in the method.

Make the texture work

Serve the fish, potatoes and greens as three separate components; keep lemon off the child's portion if sourness is difficult.

Season it properly

The listed recipe uses gentle family flavours. Keep optional pepper, lemon, herbs or fermented foods separate when that feels more comfortable.

Simple swaps

Keep a familiar food alongside the meal and serve components separately when preferred. Check every substituted packaged ingredient for gluten and casein.

Keep it safely

Cool leftovers promptly, refrigerate, and reheat once until steaming hot throughout. Follow ingredient-pack instructions and local food-safety advice.
