One step at a time

Let’s make it

  1. Mix chicken with oil, lemon, garlic, paprika and cumin. Leave for 10 minutes.
  2. Cook chicken in a wide pan over medium heat for 10–12 minutes, turning often, until browned and the thickest pieces reach 75°C.
  3. Stir cucumber into yogurt for a cool side, keeping it plain if mixed textures are difficult.
  4. Warm rice and serve chicken, rice and yogurt in separate sections. Taste chicken and add salt only if needed; add parsley to adult plates.

Preparation and cooking times are estimates. Use the doneness checks in the method.

Make the texture work

Keep the yogurt and cucumber separate from warm food if temperature contrast is a barrier. Cut chicken into small, even pieces.

Season it properly

Paprika, cumin, lemon and garlic create a familiar warm aroma. Offer pepper, chilli and extra lemon only to adults.

Simple swaps

Use turkey or firm tofu. Serve plain rice with a little chicken first, then offer the yogurt dip as a new side.

Keep it safely

Refrigerate chicken and rice within 2 hours and use within 24 hours. Keep yogurt chilled and do not reheat it.

Food education

What the ingredients bring

These are practical food-group notes, not a laboratory nutrition analysis. Portions and brands change the numbers.

  • Chicken and yogurt provide protein, calcium and vitamin B12.
  • Rice supplies carbohydrate energy.
  • Cucumber contributes fluid and vitamin K; lemon adds a little vitamin C.
Before serving: adapt the size and texture to your child’s chewing skills, then let the meal be a relaxed family moment.
